1. Good advice stops working the moment it gets loud
Connect before you correct. Give them two choices, not three. It's solid advice and it's easy to follow on a Tuesday afternoon.
Then it's a school night, they're refusing, and you can feel yourself running out. The advice is still true. It just doesn't tell you what you're looking at, and you can't apply a technique to a situation you're misreading in real time.
Understanding what's in front of you is what makes the technique usable. Without it you're guessing quickly and hoping.
